Oxycontin is a peptide hormone which is given to a pregnant women during her delivery for the induction of labor pain. The body naturally produces the hormone Oxycontin to stimulate contractions. Pitocin and Syntocinon are brand name medications that are forms of Oxycontin. They can be given through an IV at low doses to stimulate contractions.
