It is possible in plants only since they totipotency. By fusing the somatic cells of two different species or genera or even plants and animals, the new species can be produced. already it experimented in plants. E.g. Potato cells are fused with tomato and Pomato is obtained. Still it requires more experiments so that we can improve the technology.
