This is a force developed due to transpiration. This pull causes mesophyll cells to loose water and their DPD increase. This leads to absorption of water from adjoining cells. This continues and water is transmitted from one cell to another creating a force or pull which is responsible for pulling the continuous water column formed due to adhesion and cohesion in xylem.
